There are cases where you may want to send emails for user invites. The easiest way to do this is to send them a link to a page using the externalId reference. If this page is password protected will the user be redirected to the the login/registration page. After completion of either is the CurrentUser set and it is possible to link the object referenced by the exteralId to the logged in user.
