UML, or the Unified Modeling Language, is a general-purpose modeling language commonly used in the field of software engineering. It is designed to provide a standard way to visualize the design and architecture of a system. UML was created and developed by notable software engineers Grady Booch, Ivar Jacobson, and James Rumbaugh at Rational Software during the period of 1994 to 1995, with further development continuing through 1996. UML allows software developers and engineers to represent complex software applications and systems through a series of diagrams and models, helping to convey system structure, behavior, and relationships in a clear and standardized manner.
