A reference package is package that you cannot edit in your model. You can use it and add links to and from classes in it.

Sometimes you may want escape this restriction and adopt the package to become a copy that you own in your model. You can do that by choosing adopt package in Import/Export.

After this you are free the change the package in your model - but it will not update if the original source is updated.
